Excursions in Extracurricular Discourse |
|||||||||||
St. Joseph's College is proud to present Sound Bites, a forum
designed to further enrich the already stimulating intellectual climate of
the College. By extending the environment of academic inquiry from the
classroom to the extracurricular sphere, Sound Bites seeks
to stimulate intellectual discourse throughout the entire SJC community. |

Time
and place: |

Sound Bites meets on an irregular
basis in the Student Lounge or in the Red Room and the time is the Common
Hour from 12:23 to 1:35. The participants represent the entire St. Joseph's
College community: faculty, students, staff and administration. Each time a
different topic is selected to be examined and an informal discussion is lead
by a moderator. Lectures and scholarly presentations are well represented in
academic life at SJC. Sound Bites seeks to
complement these by providing a forum for informal intellectual inquiry. |

The topics discussed in Sound Bites are selected to generate
light rather than heat. While there is no question that controversial issues
encourage participation, they seldom result in reasoned discourse. It has
been said that an interesting truth is one whose negation, were it to be
true, would also be an interesting truth. It is in
this spirit that Sound Bites seeks to examine
interesting truths. |
