We
have designed this web site to assist you in using the computer
labs available at St. Joseph's College.
We request that you follow the guidelines below to make your
computing practices at St. Joseph's both productive and enjoyable.
St.
Joseph's College currently has six computer labs in the McEntegart Hall
Library. Lab 203 is located on the second floor. Labs 302, 303,
304 are located on the thrid floor and labs 402, 405 on the fourth
floor. For more information about what software
is in which lab, check out our Software
Information.
St.
Joseph's College currently has Smart Classrooms in the STVH,
MCE, and SAH buildings. The Smart Classrooms consist of a
computer, DVD/VCR player, receiver and speakers.
At
any "Open Lab" time, faculty & staff may come
in and use the computer labs. These times and scheduled classes
are posted outside of each lab. Each open lab is equipped
with a color flatbed scanner and a color deskjet printer for
your use.
Open
Labs during the weekend and non-scheduled Reserved Classes
are also published outside of each computer lab. You can also
view our lab
schedule on this site.
In
general, logging in to a computer is as simple as typing the
username, which is student and clicking ok (there is no password
to log in).
Faculty & staff may reserve a computer lab for a class
session contact Yulinda Soto at ysoto@sjcny.edu. Or
if a faculty member would like one on one training, contact
Yvette Findlayter at yfindlayter@sjcny.edu
Faculty
& staff are welcomed and encouraged to take one or more
Instructional Computing Workshops which are offered at various
times throughout the semester. For more information, check
out the St.
Joseph's Faculty and Staff Technology Training page.
Software
may be requested by instructors to be installed on our computer
labs prior to the start of each semester. If the request for
additional software is being made during the semester, you
must contact the lab administrators at labs@sjcny.edu at least
two weeks in advance. During the semester, additional installs
are handled on a case-by-case basis.
Printing
is free, however, please try and conserve the paper (help
save a tree). Use your programs Print Preview function to
make all corrections prior to printing final copies.
Food
and beverages are NOT permitted in the computer labs at any
time.
Always
save important files and documents to a floppy disk.
IMPORTANT: The 2nd Floor lab in MCE does NOT have a floppy
drive. If you would like to save your work, please bring a
CD-RW or a Flash Drive. Our computers systems will reverse
any changes made to the system upon each restart. This will
include any files you have saved to the hard drive.
When
purchasing floppy disks, please try to obtain those with a
plastic slide rather than metal. Metal slides tend to become
dented and bent and therefore are more prone to breaking off
in the floppy drive. Not only does this damage the computer,
it puts you files and documents in jeopardy.
Even
though most disks come preformatted, it is a good idea to
reformat them prior to use.
