Specific Objectives
| The
Graduate Program in Infant/Toddler Early Childhood Special Education
is designed to reflect the philosophy and purpose by: |

Utilizing
an integrated approach to Infant/Toddler Early Childhood Special
Education that incorporates the liberal arts coursework component
and links it to the New York State Learning Standards, (based on
a strong child development foundation), research (rooted in problem
solving), and the recognition of the instructional procedures that
respond to the needs of children with mild to severe delays and
disabilities; |

To provide
alternate environments for the practicum experience on a continuum
from the natural environment (home, community) to center and school
based in which students can apply the prescriptive teaching techniques
and collaborative communication skills to solve problems related
to family needs as a member of a transdisciplinary team; |

To develop
problem solving ability and critical thinking skills through disciplined
engagement in research; |

To prepare
teachers who are sensitive to the needs of families who have children
with developmental delays and severe disabilities who may be residing
in high risk areas of the community; |

To emphasize
the philosophy of the inclusion model as it applies to successful
access to education, health, social service, full participation,
and maximum independence. |
