Requirements
All applicants for admission to the Master of Arts program shall:
Possess a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college;
Have achieved a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 (on a scale of 0 – 4.0);
Have an undergraduate major in education or one of the liberal arts with at least one course in child development and two courses in special education.
Possess provisional/initial/permanent certification from New York State

Certification
1. For students with provisional certification, Pre–K–6, acquired before February 2, 2004, this Master's degree program will serve as the functionally relevant graduate degree program required for permanent certification in Pre–K–6. The area of graduate study is Special Education.

2. For students with provisional certification in Special Education, acquired before February 2, 2004, this Master's program will serve as the graduate degree program required for permanent certification in Special Education. The area of graduate study is Infant/Toddler Early Childhood Special Education.

3. For students with dual certification, acquired before February 2, 2004, this Master's program will serve as the graduate degree program for permanent certification in Special Education. It will also serve as the functionally relevant graduate degree program required for permanent certification in Pre–K–6.

4. For students with initial certification in Childhood Education, this Master’s program will serve as the graduate degree program required for initial/professional certification in Infant/Toddler Early Childhood Special Education and/or initial/professional certification in Early Childhood.

5. For students with an initial certificate in Early Childhood, this Master’s program will serve as the graduate degree program acquired for initial/professional certification in Infant/Toddler Early Childhood Special Education and/or professional certification in Early Childhood.

6. For students with an initial certificate in Early Childhood Special Education, this Master’s program will serve as the graduate degree program required for initial/professional certification in Infant/Toddler Early Childhood Special Education and/or initial/professional certification in Early Childhood.

7. For students with an initial certificate in Childhood Special Education, this Master’s program will serve as the graduate degree program required for initial/professional certification in Infant/Toddler Early Childhood Special Education and/or initial professional certification in Early Childhood.


Transfer of Credits
Matriculated students in the Graduate Program may apply to the Curriculum Director for acceptance of up to six (6) graduate credits, with grades of B or better, from other accredited graduate programs. Acceptance of transfer credit will be dependent upon appropriateness of the courses to the student's program of study.
