Golden Eagles Sweep Weekly Skyline Volleyball
Awards Patchogue, NY – The Skyline Conference has released their first weekly awards of the season and honored two Golden Eagle Volleyball players in the awards. Nichole Hassett was named Skyline Conference Player of the Week and Christina Auth was named Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week (9/8/03). Thanks to Hassett, Auth and the rest of the ladies, St. Joseph’s is off to a 3-1 start. Nichole Hassett, a senior from Sayville, has helped the reigning Skyline champs to a fast start and was recognized by being named Skyline Player of the Week. The outside hitter has played 16 games, hitting .352 with 52 kills and tallying a team-high 31 digs. She is also contributing .94 aces per game. A key player on last year’s squad, Nichole is off to a terrific start in 2003. Christina Auth, a freshman who is just seeing her first action as a collegiate player, became the first 2003 winner of the Skyline Rookie of the Week award. The setter from East Patchogue immediately stepped into the Golden Eagles rotation and has shown she belongs with her outstanding play. In 17 games, Auth has recorded 70 assists, hit .453, had 16 digs and six blocks. She has also registered a .91 serve percentage with four aces. The SJC Golden Eagle Women’s Volleyball team has picked up right where they left off in 2002. Last season the team earned their first ever bid to the NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament. They were 23-5 overall and won the Skyline and WIAC Conferences.
