Women’s Soccer on a Roll, Paiva Named Patchogue, NY – It has been smooth sailing for the Golden Eagles Women’s Soccer team as of late. The ladies have won four straight games and seven out of their last eight contests. Over the past five games they have outscored opponents 21-3. Coach Joe Lee’s squad has taken it to Ramapo, St. Elizabeth, CCNY, Bard, Purchase, Mt. St. Vincent and Queens College, which plays in Division II. St. Joseph’s is currently 9-4 overall. In conference play the Golden Eagles are 2-2 Skyline and 1-1 WIAC. It is hard to single out one player that has contributed the most to the recent success because there have been several notable performances over the past few weeks. The most unusual came in a 7-0 win over CCNY. In that contest, Lisa Paiva, SJC’s starting goalkeeper shutout CCNY in the first half of the game and then moved to forward for the second half. On offense, she scored three goals in the final 11 minutes of play earning her first hat trick of her collegiate career. Paiva, a sophomore from Deer Park, is sporting a 7-4 record thus far. In the 881 minutes spent in goal she has made 55 saves. Lisa has a save percentage of .743 and 4.3 shutouts to her credit. For her stellar play she was named Skyline Player of the Week (10/13/03). It is the first time that a member of the team has won the award this season. Making a big contribution to the offense is Adrienne Postiglione. The sophomore leads the team with 21 points and is tied for the team lead in goals (8) with Francine DeJosia. DeJosia, a senior in her first year of NCAA soccer, has 18 points this season. Justine Salpietro, third on the team with 10 points, scored the clutch lone goal over Ramapo. Salpietro is tied with senior Nicole Divone for the team lead in game-winning goals (3). The Golden Eagles travel to SUNY New Paltz this Saturday and then return home for a WIAC Conference game with NJCU on Monday at 3 pm. Next Wednesday (10/22) SJC travels to Farmingdale for an important Skyline match.
