Mando and Konicke Bring Home Skyline Awards
Golden Eagle Basketball Players Honored in Weekly Awards


Patchogue, NYThe Skyline Conference has announced honors for two St. Joseph's College Women's Basketball players. Kristen Mando was named Player of the Week for 12/19/03 and Abigail Konicke received the Rookie of the Week award for 1/6/04. Both Golden Eagle players are natives of West Babylon and graduated from West Babylon High School.

Kristen Mando, a 5-11 sophomore forward, garnered Skyline Conference Player of the Week honors following a week in which she scored 55 points and grabbed 28 rebounds in two games. Mando scored a career-high 29 points, pulled down 13 boards, and stole four balls in a 77-39 win over Yeshiva. Previously, in a loss to New Jersey City, Kristen put in 26 points, including a perfect 10 for 10 from the free-throw line.

In the latest Division III rankings by the NCAA, Mando ranked 21st in points per game. She currently leads St. Joseph's with 19.7 points per game and 9.71 rebounds per game.

Abigail Konicke, also a 5-11 forward, earned the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week award by tallying 15 points in a 68-43 win over Lehman. In that game, Konicke grabbed 9 rebounds and stole three balls. The freshman is third on the team in scoring (8.67 ppg) and ranks second in rebounds (7.83 rpg).

In other Lady Eagle news, Christine Argentina, SJC's sophomore point guard, currently leads all Division III players in steals per game (5.7spg). She is also ranked 6th in assists per game (6.7 apg).

The Lady Golden Eagles are currently 3-4 overall and 0-1 in both the Skyline and WIAC Conferences. Coach Case's squad returns to action in a WIAC Conference game vs. St. Elizabeth in front of the home fans on Saturday at 1 pm in the Danzi Athletic Center.
