Golden Eagle Baseball Winners of 10 Straight
Montesearrato and Maccone Win Skyline Awards

Patchogue, NYThe Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's are red hot and it could not have come at a better time. This Friday, the team, which has won 10 consecutive ball games and 11 of their last 12, will open the Skyline Conference Tournament at home against an opponent to be determined. The winner of the weekend's double elimination tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.

In a testament to the team's outstanding play, two Golden Eagles have picked up Skyline Conference awards this week - Jack Monteserrato and Rob Maccone.

Pitcher Jack Monteserrato (West Islip/West Islip HS) won the Skyline Pitcher of the Week after posting two wins in conference play. In Jack's two pitching victories, he threw 13 innings, did not allow an earned run and fanned five batters. This season he is 3-0 in Skyline games with a 0.00 ERA in 21 innings of work. Overall he is 3-3 a 3.15 ERA. The junior is the third pitcher on the staff to win Pitcher of the Week for the Golden Eagles in 2004 (Mike Luzim 3/29 & 4/5 and Tony Gallia 4/19).

Catcher Rob Maccone (Holtsville/Sachem HS) helped SJC to a 7-0 week and took Skyline Player of the Week honors. Maccone batted.542 (13 for 24) with eight RBI, two doubles and a triple. The senior currently leads the squad with a .354 batting average and 35 hits. Behind the plate Maccone has thrown out 50% of base runners that have tried to steal on him.

In other baseball news, pitcher Tony Gallia (East Moriches/West Hampton HS) is currently ranked 13th overall in Division III in ERA (1.10) and tied for 16th in victories. The unbeaten pitcher with a 7-0 record is scheduled to pitch against Centenary on Wednesday.

The St. Joseph's Baseball team is currently 21-14, 14-4 in the Skyline and stand in first place in the East Division. The Golden Eagles are scheduled to visit Centenary for a conference doubleheader at 3:30 pm on Wednesday. They will return to Alfano Field in Patchogue for a tune-up against Western Connecticut on Thursday at 3:30 before hosting the first game of the Skyline Tournament on Friday at 4 pm.
