Gallia on Hot Streak, Wins Skyline Pitcher
of the Week Patchogue, NY – Tony Gallia has become the second St. Joseph's pitcher this season to take home Skyline Conference Pitcher of the Week honors. The Golden Eagle junior won both ends of a doubleheader sweep against Manhattanville this past Saturday to better his record to an amazing 7-0 this year. To start his day, Gallia entered the first game of the double dip in relief and picked up the victory, a 3-2 win for SJC. In Game #2, Coach Randy Caden decided to go with Gallia again and he responded in a big way, pitching a complete game and allowing no earned runs on the way to the 2-1 final. On the day, the Center Moriches High School graduate and native of Westhampton, struck out seven batters and walked only one. By winning the two games on Saturday, Gallia not only bettered his win streak to seven games, but also remained undefeated and lowered his ERA to a miniscule 1.10. This season Gallia has appeared in eight games for SJC pitching 41 innings and has allowed only five earned runs. Tony Gallia joins Mike Luzim as Golden Eagle pitchers that have won the Skyline Pitching award in 2004. The teammates are also ranked in the latest Division III leaders in ERA. The St. Joseph's Baseball team is currently 14-13, 9-4 in the Skyline
and stand in first place in the East Division. The winner of the Skyline
Conference Championship Tournament receives an automatic bid to the NCAA
Tournament. The Golden Eagles are scheduled to visit Farmingdale for a
conference game at 3:30 pm on Wednesday. For more information on the St. Joseph's College Athletic Program, contact Frank Flandina, Sports Information Director, at (631) 4473352 or |
