School
of Arts and Sciences | Academic Programs As an accounting student, you may only have five students in your class. The result? Almost all of our majors pass the CPA exam on the first try. The strength of the Business Administration and Accounting majors is both our small size and our faculty: all of our professors are seasoned professionals still active in the business world. With the oneonone mentoring from experienced business experts, our graduates are well ahead of todays fierce competition. The Business major covers the areas of management, marketing, accounting, economics, finance and law. All Business and Accounting majors are required to take courses to develop critical thinking and ethical values, as well as in computer applications, humanities, behavioral and social sciences and natural sciences. An on-site international business seminar at the European Unions Brussels headquarters and in selected member countries is available during the summer. St. Josephs new $8 million Business Information Technology Center will house computer workshops, classrooms and faculty offices in a state-of-the-art, 33,000-square-foot facility. The new Center is part of our strong commitment to developing more computer-based learning throughout the curriculum. Recent graduates have secured positions and internships at such prestigious institutions as PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Deloitte and Touche, KPMG Peat Marwick, AIG, and Young and Rubicam. Courses to consider include Accounting Theory and Current Accounting Developments; Business Law; International Finance; International Economic Problems; and Marketing. Careers to consider include management; finance; public (CPA), industrial and private accounting, and government and institutional accounting; management accounting; management advisory services; auditing; taxation; budget analysis; international accounting; notforprofit accounting; professional research; and high school and university teaching. |
