School
of Arts and Sciences | Academic Programs "Other schools have T.A.'s that direct labs. At
St. Josephs, we work with our professor. And because there are
only 4 or 5 to a lab group, we don't have to share equipment." Advanced biology classes average only five to ten students, providing one-on-one mentoring, the development of outstanding research skills, hands-on experimentation and access to equipment. Because of the many interactions between students and professors during class and lab time, Science Club activities and professional outings, faculty members are well prepared for career advisement and writing letters of recommendation for summer research programs; graduate, medical and health professional schools; and for acceptance into honor societies. Major areas of study include developmental biology, ecology, microbiology, neuroscience, microbiology, and physiology. St. Josephs also offers an affiliated program with The New York College of Podiatric Medicine. Biology major courses to consider include Biorhythms; Ecology; Marine Biology; Molecular Biology; Neuroscience; and Physiology. Careers for Biology majors include medicine; dentistry; podiatry and osteopathy as well as physical and occupational therapy; research fields including biochemistry; pharmacology; bioengineering; environmental science; molecular biology; physiology; industrial science and public health; junior high, high school, and college teaching. |
