Student Life

“I’ve come to personify the school’s motto To be, not to seem. I’m not just pretending to be -- I’m actually fulfilling my goals. When you make St. Joe’s your own, you make that transition from seeming to actually becoming someone.”
Catherine Skabeikis, Social Sciences Major (Economics Concentration)

St. Joseph’s College offers a supportive environment for students’ academic, personal and professional growth. Because St. Joseph’s is a commuter college, staff and faculty are particularly concerned with helping students manage the many responsibilities and commitments of busy college and working lives.

One vital aspect of student life at St. Joseph’s is the emphasis on the education of the whole person, in and out of the classroom. Students, for example, have a great degree of control over the planning of extra-curricular affairs, and, through the College Advisory Council, they are encouraged to participate in college policy-making.

This environment, which fosters self-direction and responsibility, is in keeping with the College's motto: "To be, not to seem." Participation in student life enhances the entire educational experience. Students do make a difference at St. Joseph's.
