Speech Communication

Effective oral communication is vital not only for professional but personal success. Majors develop confidence and poise, learn excellent listening and critical thinking skillls, acquire the ability to express opinions effectively, and develop their interpretive reading ability. A group of courses addresses the science of speech, introducing majors to the professions of speech-language pathology and audiology.

Major courses to consider include Audiology; Interpersonal Communication; Normal Language Development; Psychology of Speech Communication; and Voice and Diction.

Speech Communication majors may consider careers in advertising; film; journalism; law; library science; managerial training; public relations; personnel; public relations; publishing; radio; script writing and other writing; sales and service; speech pathology; teaching; television; theater; and travel services.
